HMRC told me not to share my credentials why are you asking for them?

This requirement comes from how HMRC’s Self Assessment system works. All third party software (including our competitors) work the same way and must pass your Government Gateway credentials to HMRC to submit a return. AbraTax does not store these credentials, encrypts them during transit, and staff cannot see them. In addition, for added security, HMRC now requires two factor authentication (2FA) to access many of their services for your account - not just these credentials.

Details

• HMRC’s current Self Assessment system requires software to use your credentials to submit.

• AbraTax passes them securely to HMRC and then discards them.

• AbraTax staff cannot view your password.

• Without your phone for two factor authentication, access to your wider HMRC account is very limited.
