What to do if you don't have a Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR)

Modified on Thu, 11 Dec, 2025 at 4:11 PM

If you do not have a UTR, you cannot use AbraTax to file a Self Assessment return. In many cases that also means you may not be required to file. If you believe you do need to pay tax but do not have a UTR, you will need to contact HMRC directly.

Details

• A UTR is required to file through AbraTax.

• No UTR usually means you are not currently set up for Self Assessment.

• If you still think you should be filing, only HMRC can advise on getting a UTR and next steps.
